Year of the Dog Mask
It's the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese Zodiac calendar! "A zodiac system has existed in Chinese culture since the Qin dynasty, more than 2,000 years ago." This calendar is based off a 12 year cycle, each year representing a different animal!
The Year of the Dog is said to have 5 different types of dogs: wood, fire, earth, gold, water. This is the year of the Earth Dog. Characteristics of the Earth Dog include "communicative, serious, and responsible in work".
We decided to make dog masks to celebrate the Chinese New Year! We chose to use a collage technique with torn paper to decorate our masks! It is really fun to do and the end result is highly textured and highly varied!
Give it a go!
Gather:
*Card stock
*Scrap paper
*Popsicle sticks
*Glue stick
*Scissors
Create:
1. Print the Dog Mask template.
2. Tear pieces of scrap paper and apply them with glue stick to the mask.
3. Allow to dry and cut out mask including eyes.
4. Hot glue popsicle stick to the back side of the mask.
